Trans Art! Vaquero Azul presents Nichos Workshop (LGBTQ2IA+ Theme), Handmade Altars

Nichos are iconic to Mesoamerican culture, though it originated as a popular adaptation of the Roman Catholic retablo tradition of painting patron saints on wood or tin. Within each box there is a key object or central figure for whose honor or memory the Nicho has been created. Nichos over time have become interwoven to Mesoamerican artist communities. In this workshop I join you to learn about Mesoamerican LGBT+ Community icons and theme yours either around community members you look up to, artists, storytellers, poets, your personal family, anyone you adore and want to honor. Participants, please bring with you to the class printed photos of loved ones or pre-preprinted images of community icons you admire and want to honor. Capacity: 30 People. Drop-In; No advanced sign-up.
